Which each group of immigrants coming to this country, they build new lives and new connections. There is still a deep nostalgic and longing for the old lives left behind in their native country. Himalayan Fair is a two days event celeberating the culture and tradition of the people from the Himalayan Regions. Himalayan region consist of all the countries where the mighty Himalayas reins in like Tibet, Nepal, Northern part of India, Mongolia and Bhutan. This fair has been running for more than two decades in Berkeley organzied by a group of wetern hikers who had been to the Himalayas.
2010 Himalayan Fair : This year Himalayan Fair was very vibrant and there were lots of people and stalls. Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC) had been a vital aprt of the fair. With a volunteers from our community, I was at the momo stall selling momos for all two days. I did not get to see the cultural performances by Tibetans, Bhutanese Nepalis. The highlights of the Himalayan Fair is the ethnic himalayan handicrafts shops and jewelleries. Tibetan momo was very sought after and long lines were formed to buy Tibetan momos.
Momo - is a dumpling with meat/vegetarian stuffings covered with wrap. This is streamed and served hot with spicy sauce. It is made from the scratch and Tibetans like to make it on special occasion at home.
